World Rural Development Day 2025: Remi Tinubu advocates rural empowerment

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for sustained efforts toward empowering rural communities to cope with climate change, economic instability, and conflict-related disruptions.
In a message marking the 2025 World Rural Development Day, Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of building resilience within rural populations as a foundation for national development. This year’s global theme is “Rural Development: Resilience to Global Change.”
“Rural communities are the bedrock upon which lasting national development is built,” the First Lady said. “Therefore, we need to empower our rural populations to adapt and thrive in the face of the growing challenges of climate change, economic uncertainty, and communal conflicts.”
Senator Tinubu urged stakeholders to work collaboratively to ensure that all communities benefit from national development plans. “Let us work together to ensure that no community is left behind as we build a stronger, more resilient Nigeria,” she added.
The First Lady’s message aligns with broader global conversations around sustainable development, particularly the role of rural areas in ensuring food security, environmental stewardship, and social stability.
